A mixed day at Stratford, with ALEXANDER THE GREY going agonisingly close in the 19f handicap chase and then JESSICA RABBIT disappointing on her return to action this action.
ALEXANDER looked every inch the winner turning out of the back straight, but after jumping the last he found nothing, and was reeled in a couple of strides from the line to be beaten a neck. Where have we heard that story before ?! He really is the most frustrating horse – placed so many times, but yet to get his head in front – but his last 2 runs have been much improved and so hopefully he can shed his maiden tag next time out.
JESSICA RABBIT had been uncharacteristically wound up all afternoon before her race, and was a ball of sweat from the moment we saddled her. She paid for that in the race – jumped and travelled really well for 2 miles, but then faded tamely at the end. There’s better to come from her.
