While May might have been quiet on the racing front, it has been busy on the sales front, and that has meant that it has been busy at home, getting the new youngsters broken and ridden away, and finding out a little about the new older horses before they start their summer break.

We’ve had 7 new 3 year old stores arrive at the yard in the last 3 weeks – 5 from Tattersalls Ireland’s May sale and 2 from last week’s Doncaster sale – and they are a lovely bunch. There are 2 beautiful fillies by Shirocco and Fame & Glory, and 5 lovely geldings by Ask, Sholokov, Sans Frontieres, Requinto and Martaline. They’ve all got nice pedigrees, and are all nice movers. They are already starting to show their different temperaments – and they’re getting yard names to match !

Added to that we have had 6 new older horses arrive too, 3 with point to point form and 3 with Rules form. The pointers are
- THE DISTANT LADY. She’s a 5yo Fracas own sister to the black type STOOSHIE, and finished 2nd at Rathcannon in April. She’s a speedy, good ground mare, and the plan with her will be to try to win a bumper during the summer. I think she will be syndicated, so please do get in touch if you are interested in a share in her
- GOLD TIME. She’s a touch as nails daughter of Goldwell whose form is rock solid – 1 win and 5 places to date. She will have a break through the summer and then we’ll see where we are with her in the autumn
- AVIEWTOSEA. He’s a 4yo from the family of Maximise and Young Ottoman, and I couldn’t help but be impressed by the way he finished his Tralee maiden earlier this month, coming from well off the pace to get within a length of Donnchadh Doyle’s smart FRENCH DYNAMITE. The winner sold for £165k, this fellow for rather less, but hopefully we have a nice prospect on our hands with him. He’s another that will have a summer break and then will return under Rules in the winter.

Of the horses with Rules form
- HATTAAB joins us from Henry Oliver. He’s a beautifully bred 5 year old who has just taken time to get his act together, but based on his form so far this spring he’s a winner waiting to happen
- ASK HENRY was placed in all 4 of his bumpers in Ireland, running some smart sorts close. He’s bred to improve for a hurdle and a trip, and he’s an exciting one for the autumn
- DUBLIN FOUR was placed in both his Irish bumpers for the Shark, but it was probably his unplaced bumper at Wetherby earlier in the year that is the pick of his form. The form of that race has worked out really well – 5 bumper winners have come out of it – and I think his fellow could turn out to be decent after a summer at grass.

Exciting times – but it means some seriously hard work for Paddy, who is the master on the ground with the youngsters at the yard !

All of the horses are now on the HORSES page of the website, so do have a look and if there are any that interest you, get in touch.
