The first 3 year old store sale of the season at Tattersalls Ireland yesterday, and I think there were some real bargains to be made – whether that was because of Mr O’Leary’s announcement, who knows !! We managed to buy 5, and I really like each of them.

Details and pedigree for them all are at the foot of the ‘Horses’ section, and do please get in touch if you’d like to know more.

One of the targets for the day was ASK BEN’s full brother, and we got him. He has been bought by Burr & Dudwell Racing, who have enjoyed success this year with MY CHARITY. If he is half as good as his brother, they have a lovely horse.

I’ve been trying to buy a really nicely bred Shirocco filly for a while now – sire of Annie Power, amongst others – and finally I managed to get my hands on one. Her pedigree is first class – she’s out of a Presenting mare, out of a Buckskin mare. There’s plenty of black type in the family already, and she’s a half-sister to the cracking BALLYARTHUR.

Next on the lorry was a Sholokhov gelding out of an 8-time winning mare (hurdles and fences). he’s got speed and stamina in the family, and looks a lovely sort.

The Sans Frontieres gelding is a super big fellow. The top half of his page looks a bit light, but you’ll forgive him as neither the first dam nor the second dam (both still young) have had any runners yet !! Its under the third dam that the page gets impressive – lots of black type, and consistent quality

Last but not lease, a Requinto gelding. He’s a half-brother to POINT TAKEN, who has looked impressive for Dan Skelton over hurdles since winning a 10f maiden on the flat. The second dam has bred multiple winners on the flat and over hurdles, including black type, and the third dam has an impressive strike rate of 9 winners from 10 runners, with 7 of those picking up black type. He looks an early sort, and I would expect to see him in bumpers early next season.

All in all, a good day’s work !
