19 March

Posted on March 20, 2019

The old man of the yard, RED ADMIRABLE, showed that he’s still enjoying his racing with a solid third place at Huntingdon today, travelling and jumping really well, but just finding the younger horses with a bit more speed in the home straight. He’ll have to retire one day, but I think he might just have one more run before he does.

That was all rather overshadowed though by the very sad death of CAPTAIN MCGARRY, who had to be euthanased after breaking a shoulder in the maiden hurdle. He had been with us since arriving as a 3 year old store almost 4 years ago, and was firmly a yard favourite. He showed real talent when winning his bumper at Kempton on debut in 2017, only to then pick up a niggly leg injury (different leg) last season which kept him out for the year. He’d come back better than ever this year, and we had high hopes for him for the future. More important than any of that though, he was a lovely horse with a fantastic personality. He will be sorely missed. The yard is a very quiet place this morning.
