Three at Warwick today, with mixed results. I thought HEY BILL would go close in the handicap chase, but after having a battle in front for 2 miles he then got a bit detached coming down the hill and never really got back into contention. I think we might change tactics on him next time out – although he enjoys bowling along in front, it takes a lot to win like that, so perhaps we’ll hold him up and let others do the donkey work next time.
RED ADMIRABLE ran a super race from the back of the field in the hands and heels race. The pace was fierce, as it often is in those races, and Lily did the right thing to sit and wait for the race to fall apart in front of her. The first pair weren’t for catching, but Red belied his years to finish strongly. I’d love for him to get his head in front one last time – and then he can retire !!
Last but not least, HOMING STAR was making her debut over hurdles. After a couple of sticky jumps early on she warmed to the task, and although she finished well beaten in the end, I think she showed enough to think that there will be races in her in time once she is handicapped.
