A 2 horse race should be simple to plan for, but with a horse like SKIPTHECUDDLES, nothing is ever simple ! He’s a monkey in front, and tends to get disheartened if anything goes away from him, so Kielan had his work cut out in the 3m Novices Chase at Market Rasen today to get the other runner in front of him, and then stick to him like glue. He did a great job – pushing and cajoling for 22 furlongs to keep him on the leader’s quarters, and then kicking as they swung down off the hill to get upsides jumping the second last and then get his nose in front after the last. Once he was there, he ran on well, and the win was a comfortable one, but it was a great effort to get him into that winning position in the first place.
That should book STC’s place at Cheltenham now, although which race he goes for will be decided a bit bearer the time.
