A day of contrasting fortunes and emotions.
ASK BEN might have lost his unbeaten record, but he lost nothing in defeat when running a gallant second in the Grade 2 Prestige Albert Bartlett trial at Haydock today. The going was slightly too quick, and he had to make the running in the absence of any front runners – neither of which helped – but he still a class field behind him as they jumped the last, and only surrendered the win late on the run in. All being well, his next run will be at the Festival.
DAYDREAM AULMES was bidding to make it 4 wins in a row in a hot handicap at Ascot. With Kielan at Haydock, Sam T-D rode him, and there was still plenty left in the tank, and he was making good headway through the field, when he made a terrible mistake at 2 out and came down. The fall was a horrible one, and he was down for an awfully long time – well over 20 minutes – before getting back to his feet. He’s going to be a stiff horse tomorrow, but thank goodness it wasn’t worse.
